In the words of Semisonic’s Closing Time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. It’s that time of year when we look towards the closing dates for the winter season and opening ones for summer.
Whilst we are currently enjoying fresh Spring snow, the Morzine and Les Gets ski areas are set to close this weekend on 9 April while Avoriaz’s planned closing date is 23 April.
For seasonaires and year-round residents, the much anticipated ‘interseason’ then begins, allowing us all time to rest and recuperate after the first fully open season since 19/20.
Before that, though, is ‘closing party’ season. For those of you living here year round, it’s a great last bout of celebrations before some much needed sleep in interseason.
The first of these has somehow already happened, before the lifts have even begun to shut, at l’Passage, with our very own resident DJs from our sister bar Café Chaud DJ Chubby T and DJ Tommy Bowers.
As part of the Alpine Career Festival, the Folie Douce in Avoriaz has three back to back soirées planned from 7-9 April, with music until 10pm. Usually they close around 6pm so this is extra special and you’ll be able to see the late night sunset now the clocks have changed. Book your tickets here.
One of the oldest, most iconic buildings in Morzine is Le Tremplin. It’s closing party takes place this Sunday with music throughout the day from 11:30am to 8:30pm, from resident DJs such as Lady Eliza and Ronan Gravier and local après/wedding band Squid Lips.
Our very own MFAs (Morzine Film Awards) takes place on 11 April at 8pm in the Palais des Sports. Teams get together and have just a week to create a 4-minute long film in the area. Who wins the massive cash prize? You decide! If you haven’t got your ticket yet click here, then sit back and enjoy the show!
Our friend’s at Poppy’s (a bar, where you can eat) will have their “Closing-ish” party on 14 April, with an outdoor DJ ‘mega mix’ from 6:30 to 10:30pm. Then everyone will head up the road to our sister bar, Café Chaud.
The one everyone has been waiting for, the big one, is by our friends over at Happy Hours in Lindarets/Ardent. They sure know how to put on a party, and this year’s theme is Carnaval, Brazilian style. Be there with bells on on Friday 21 April from midday to midnight! We suggest you don’t plan anything for Saturday, or Sunday for that matter!
Whichever event you attend, or if you have to attend them vicariously through Instagram, enjoy!
