Petrol Heads’ Delight!

The Mont Blanc Rallye is rolling into town!

The sounds of engines roaring through the forests, tyres screeching around hairpin bends, exhausts put-putting through our little villages signify the end of the summer season to many each year (and has been doing for some 20 years). As one of the finest mountain rallies around, it is definitely worth waiting for! This year marks the 74th edition of the race, taking place later this week on the 8, 9, 10 September. From modern rally cars, to classics to e-cars, there’s something for every breed of petrol head as the cars take to mountain passes such as the Col de La Joux Verte made famous by the tour de France, light up the hills in night rallies and mount the podium right in the centre of Morzine at the Tourist Office Square, between Hideout Hostel and The DB Hotel.

It’s easy to hike up to some of the best viewing spots along the routes. You can often hitch a lift in the back of a pick-up too! Some locals set up little ‘buvettes’ where you can buy snacks and simple meals like the local diot sausages and chips and drinks. It’s a great atmosphere and fun way to feel part of the community.

The teams set up in the post office square and all the way down to the Palais des Sports, just a two minute walk down the hill from Hideout Hostel. To reach this from The DB Hotel, walk up the main street then turn left at the roundabout to the Super Morzine lift, take the lift down and you’ll be in the thick of mechanics, car parts, apprehension and the occasional team apéritif!
